My Identity in Christ

Providence, Preparation, Promise, Provision and Protection

Susan's central conviction in this teaching was simple: the Christian life changes when we understand who we are in Christ. She begins before creation itself and follows the believer's story through God's providence, preparation, promise, provision and protection.

God's Providence

Before the world began, God was already at work on your behalf. He chose you in Christ before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). You are no accident. God knew you, loved you, and planned for you before anything was made.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). Through Christ all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made (John 1:1-3). The same God who laid the foundations of the earth, who told the morning stars to sing and who rejoiced over His creation, is the God who knew you by name before time began.

I am special to God. He delights in me and is intimately involved with me.

God's Preparation

God prepared you for a relationship with Himself. He formed your inmost being and knit you together in your mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-16). Every day ordained for you was written in His book before one of them came to be.

He knows your thoughts, your actions, and your words. Nothing about you is hidden from Him (Hebrews 4:13). He created you in His own image (Genesis 1:26) and appointed you as the object of His faithful love and care.

You are no accident. You were planned, prepared, and purposed by a God who delights in you.

God's Promise

The promise of God is salvation through His Son. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son" (John 3:16). It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God (1 Corinthians 1:30).

When you placed your faith in Jesus, everything changed. You were adopted into God's family (Ephesians 1:5). There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10). You became a child of God, not by your own effort, but by His promise.

God's Provision

God has provided everything you need for life and godliness. He cleansed you and forgave you. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18). Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word (Ephesians 5:25-26).

You were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13-14). You are a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). Your old self was crucified with Christ so that the body of sin might be done away with (Romans 6:6).

God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). He has given you spiritual understanding, the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), and His Spirit so that you may understand what God has freely given you (1 Corinthians 2:12).

He gives gifts and abilities for the purpose of ministering to others. He has prepared good works in advance for you to walk in (Ephesians 2:10).

God's Protection

You are clothed with the new self, chosen and deeply loved by God. Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience (Colossians 3:12-14).

Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-11). You have direct access to God through prayer and the Holy Spirit. The Spirit helps us in our weakness, interceding for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26-27).

You are seated with Christ in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). Through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father (Ephesians 2:18).

My Response

"I am loved and I am lovely to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am His unique creation and He delights in me. I am His highly favored child and I belong to Him. I am protected and loved by God and am filled to overflowing by the Holy Spirit. I am never alone. I understand that I have the responsibility and authority to live my life in Christ Jesus. Thank You Lord for this truth and for Your faithful providence, provision and protection in my life. Amen."

I am special to God. He delights in me and is intimately involved with me.

You are no accident.
