More than fifty years of marriage — a partnership of love, equality, respect, faith, and mutual support.
Susan considered John one of the wisest people she ever knew. She credited him with encouraging her when she was frightened, helping bring clarity to overwhelming challenges, and supporting the ministry work she felt God had called her to do.
John often worked behind the scenes while Susan was the public leader. Together they supported NEWIM, conferences, Chosen Women stadium events, and other ministry efforts. Their marriage was a beautiful example of partnership, mutual respect, and supporting each other's calling.
A once-in-a-lifetime moment with “my honey”
On a 1986 trip to Santa Barbara, Susan and John accidentally wandered onto a nudist beach while so absorbed in conversation they never noticed where they'd gone.
That same evening, they watched Halley's Comet together — a moment Susan described as once-in-a-lifetime, spent with “my honey.”
Across the United States and Europe
Susan and John loved traveling together throughout the United States and Europe. Italy held a particularly special place in her heart — especially Verona. Their adventures were part of the fabric of their partnership.
A marriage that showed what it looks like to love, respect, and support each other's calling.
