My Car in High School

Childhood

As soon as I got my driver's license, my dad got me a car. I was so excited! It was a black, 3-speed, 1952 Ford. Its headliner hung down and the upholstery had its thin spots, but it was beautiful to me. I was the first one of my friends to get a car. They were just as excited as I was because we had freedom at last!

We left school for lunch most every day. We had to sneak out because leaving during school hours was against the rules. During the summer, we went to the beach; I drove friends around because it was fun, and Dad had given me a gas credit card.

Sadly, that car did not last long. I blew the transmission trying to do wheelies and lay rubber. So Dad bought me a 1954 tan, automatic Ford. I was a little more respectful of this car.

I will not share all the mischief I got into because I had a car, except to say it was a lot.
