Nicknames? Nothing unusual, all you might expect, really. Sue, or Susie. During the 1950s, Susan was a common name, so often there were 3 of us in the classroom. The teacher decided who would be called Susan, Sue, or Susie. I was most often called Susie. However, my sister Paula called me Sue.
As a mentor, some of my daughters call me by various names: Suz, Mama, Mama Suz, Suzi, and Susie. It doesn't matter what they call me; I love all the variations. I love that they still call and have need of our relationship.
My heart warms every time I hear one of my boys call me Mom. As I age it has grown more precious to hear them say it, or write it — although writing it is not quite the same feeling. It is an honor to be their mom, so hearing them call me that is a boatload of joy, love, and blessing. I am so proud of each son.
I love being called Grandma. I do not hear that name very often because they all are in different states from me. But when I do, it is such a joy.
My favorite nickname these days is Grammy. I love being called Grammy, and getting a hug at the same time is awesome! It is the best of the best. Now I have "adopted" grandkids who call me Grammy, and I get hugs from them as well. So, so, so sweet.
My niece Paula calls me Auntie. I love that as well.
I love each and every nickname! Each one makes me feel so special, in different ways. I feel loved, grateful to have a family and friends who love me.
