God has been gracious to rescue me so many times, both literally and figuratively. I am so grateful to Jesus that I want you to know about how I was rescued, not only from my own foolish acts, but also I have been miraculously delivered. Here are several examples.
As a 16-year-old, I took my brother's Royal Crown and drank most of the bottle, leading to alcohol poisoning. My two friends tried to nurse me through the night after I passed out. I am guessing they told my dad the situation. He let me sleep it off for a few days, until I could get out of bed. After eating something, he took me to my mom's apartment, to live with her.
That same year, I stole over-the-counter sleeping pills to commit suicide. I took them all. Again, my life was spared.
Later, after I was married to John, and had Steve and Mike, I developed a bladder infection. I did not have the energy to take the boys with me to a urologist a half an hour away. I watched my temperature go up; finally, when it hit 106 degrees, I called John for help. He took me to the hospital; the doctors met us there. I remained in the hospital for 15 days. While recovering there, the urologist told me it was the hottest infection he had ever seen. I did not realize how depressed I was, or that this was another way to try to commit suicide. My life was spared once again. Sadly, because of my actions, John and his folks had to move us from Huntington Park to Irvine, setting up our new home. It was a terrible hardship for them all.
After the Lord revealed Himself to me and I surrendered my life to Him in 1979, I had hope, learning to serve others. I chose to live for Him and value the life He had given me. I know He spared my life each time I tried to end it.
Once I was unaware that I had an extreme sphenoid sinus infection. In addition, for a separate reason, I would take a prescription sleeping pill. Months after finishing the sleeping pills, I was driving from Santa Ana to Lake Arrowhead. While entering the 91 Toll Road, I experienced an absence seizure. I had no awareness of driving; I did not see where I was going and had no knowledge of what I was doing. I drove miles, to the other side of Corona, before I became aware again! I was so grateful to God for "driving" while I was experiencing the seizure. Because of that experience, I was given an MRI, where they found the dense infection mass filling my sphenoid cavity. Surgery followed. It was a side effect of the sleeping pill that caused the seizure; interesting that I was given a sample of the sleeping pills, and trying them led to the discovery of the infection.
I had other miraculous rescues while I was driving. There was a driver coming toward me head-on; I had no time to respond — the collision didn't happen. I was shocked. There was no way to miss each other. Another time, while driving up a mountain road at night, overly tired, I drove off the road. I thought I was going off the cliff, but I found myself firmly on the road again. I have had other miraculous misses. It seems the Lord has protected me all my days, in so many ways. I am grateful, and confident in His good care of my life.
