A Book of Remembrance

The Lord paid attention and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared the Lord and esteemed His name (Malachi 3:16). Throughout Scripture, God's people built memorials and kept records of His faithfulness. A heart that boasts in the Lord is a heart that remembers.

Boast in the Lord at All Times

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord (Psalm 34:1-3). Praise is not dependent on our circumstances. Whether we feel like praising or not, the Lord remains worthy of praise.

Boast in the Battles of Life

You are my King and my God, who ordains victories. Through You we push down our foes (Psalm 44:4-8). In the battles of life, the servant of God learns to boast not in her own strength but in the Lord's. He is the one who fights for us, who gives victory, who sustains us in the hardest seasons.

Boast When You Are Needy

When we are in need, physically or emotionally, the temptation is to focus on the lack. But the psalmist writes, "I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high" (Psalm 69:29-33). The Lord does not despise the needy. He hears them. He is near.

Boast When All Is Well

When life is good, when the harvest is plentiful, when the home is peaceful, it is easy to forget the Giver. But the Lord says through Jeremiah: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me" (Jeremiah 9:23-24).

Knowing and Praising God

To boast in the Lord is to know Him. Not just to know about Him, but to know His character, His heart, His ways. He delights in steadfast love, justice, and righteousness. These are the things in which He delights, and these are the things we are invited to know.

Revival of the Heart

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity: "I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite" (Isaiah 57:15). Revival begins with humility. Praise flows from a heart that has been softened and revived by the presence of God.

The Lord Delights in You

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing (Zephaniah 3:17). Before you ever boasted in Him, He was boasting over you.

One Day We Will Lay Our Crowns at His Feet

Far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Galatians 6:14). And one day, the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who is seated on the throne and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, "Worthy are You, our Lord and God" (Revelation 4:10). Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Revelation 5:13-14).

Praise is not dependent on our circumstances.

Let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me.
